Business Transformation for a Manufacturer in Default

The Pilot Group consultants worked with a $5.0 Billion computer equipment manufacturer in default with its lenders to reengineer the business.  The team of client and consulting personnel rationalized facilities and products, refinanced debt, and developed new business flows, policies and procedures.  New manufacturing support systems, were designed, developed, and implemented to facilitate sustaining the improvements realized.

Results: The lead time for the company’s major product was reduced by over 90%, leading to annual savings in excess of $50 Million.

Global Supply Chain and Operations Improvement for a Computer Value Added Reseller (VAR)

The Pilot Group consultants worked with a team of twenty client and consulting personnel for an $800 million assembler and distributor of computer equipment serving corporate, government, and distributor markets.  The company’s core business processes for information flow and computer assembly were reengineered, and global channel partnerships developed to improve product sourcing and delivery.   An ERP system was then selected, configured and implemented to help sustain the improvements.

Results:  Customer service levels from 95% - 98% were realized to dramatically increase market share, and inventory turns improved by 60%.

Manufacturing System Strategy Overhaul

The Pilot Group consultants managed the identification of best operating practices and the development of an Information Technology Plan for a $1.5 billion manufacturer of power distribution and control equipment. Alternative manufacturing practices and system implementation strategies were developed.

Results: Reduced annual operating expense by more than $90 million.

Newly Acquired Medical Devices Company Infrastructure

The Pilot Group consultants worked with an international team of managers from a medical device sterilization company that had been sold by a capital equipment manufacturer to a private equity firm.

The new company would operate forty facilities in fourteen countries. The Pilot Group consultants developed new business information and product flows to enable the client to end its reliance on its former owner. Criteria were developed to facilitate selection of the I/T infrastructure that would be required to support the company’s international operations.

Result:The new company was able to end its reliance on its former owner, and the new information flows and system selection criteria were used to select new information technology vendors.

Operations Improvement - Irrigation Products Company

The Pilot Group consultants worked with a multifunction team of managers from a $100M manufacturer of irrigation products to identify short-term cost reduction opportunities, and implement an Activity Based Management (ABM) system to better understand and allocate costs across multiple product lines.

The company manufactured and distributed residential sprinklers that were sold through “big box” retailers, and commercial irrigation systems that were sold through construction contractors.

Result: Indirect manufacturing and selling costs were better understood, product lines were rationalized, and outsourcing candidates were identified. Short-term cost reduction programs were implemented.
